COMARA News - NEM Satellite Gallery

To: COMARA Members

I am very pleased to provide this update to the COMARA membership regarding progress that has been on the Satellite Gallery at the National Electronics Museum in Linthicum, Maryland (near BWI Airport). Over the past ten months, a final design was prepared by our design expert, David Fridberg, and a highly qualified design firm, ExPlus Design, has been retained to fabricate the actual Gallery. This reflects the culmination of a six-year effort on the part of a team of satellite professionals in pursuit of this goal. Also, in conjunction with this effort, Denis Curtin and I have become members of the Board of Directors of the National Electronics Museum. The formal grand opening of the Gallery is slated for later in the third quarter of this year, although the Gallery will be open for visitors once the fabrication has been completed, which should be sometime this summer.

To date, significant financial support for this has been provided by a number of individuals and companies with strong ties to the satellite industry. However, as the final efforts are coming together, we are pursuing an additional fund raising effort to insure that we have sufficient funds for this to be a truly world class undertaking. As part of this COMARA and the Intelsat Retirees Association have each made an additional financial contribution in support of this effort (in our case in memory of the passing of Joseph Charyk) and on behalf of the COMARA Board, we are now encouraging individual COMARA members to contribute as well. In this regard, no contribution would be too small, and whatever you comfortably feel you can donate to this worthy cause would be most appreciated. Additionally, as the contributions would be made to the National Electronics Museum, which is a qualified 501(c)(3) entity, any contributions that you make would be fully tax deductible.

Checks should be made out to the National Electronics Museum, and mailed to:
National Electronics Museum,
P.O. Box 1693, MS 4015,
Baltimore, MD 21203.
You can download and print a donation form from the National Electronics Museum .

Alternatively, contributions can be made by credit card on line at the following web address: . In either case, please do indicate that your contribution is for the Satellite Gallery Project.

Thank you in advance for your consideration of this request.
